IT'S A BIT LATE. BUT HERE IT IS.
As a rookie team, we went to our first qualifier at Saratoga High school on November 11th. There were many interesting things that we learned by attending it. Even before the matches started, we were learning new strategies. For example, a couple of teams were scouting the other teams. The more experienced teams were going around each of the stations, questioning others on their robot capabilities, tele-op and autonomous points, and sponsorships. Another thing we learned before the qualifying matches was during our interview with the judges. We realized that many teams came to these interviews with a set presentation or slideshow and some of them even had posters. We needed to be more prepared for these interviews.
We noticed that many of the high ranking teams were able to start the match with their robots hanging, and also end with their robots hanging. This gave our alliance much more points. Some other things we noticed were that many robots were not properly able to place their team markers in the depot, leaving their depots vulnerable. We realized that we should use this to our advantage. In the 4th match, we went to the opposing team's depot and took cubes to take points from their team and add them to our team. After all the qualifying rounds were completed, we came out to be 6th out of 22 teams. We were invited into an alliance with the Panthers in the semifinals. Sadly, we lost our competition and our journey ended there. We learned many things by going to this qualifier and we hope to be able to apply these new ideas and concepts in our next one.
