Going to the FTC Kickoff 2018-19

Today we visited Valley Christian High School for the FTC Kickoff of the 2018-19 season: Rover Ruckus! The campus was huge and we got to explore different areas in the school while visiting the many workshops offered by other teams. After months of waiting, we finally found out what the game elements were: yellow cubes (gold minerals) and whiffle balls (silver minerals). The objective of the challenge is to get as many minerals into our depot, or into the lander in the center. On top of that, we get bonus points if we are able to latch our robot to the lander and hang in the air during endgame. Once the game presentation was over, our team members immediately starting talking and collaborating with each other about possible constructions for the robot to hang. After a whole hour of eating lunch, pretending to gamble, and playing charades we set off to the workshops. Many of the workshops repeated so other team members could attend. Most of the workshops were slightly generalized and did not have much information, but a few of the more interesting ones for our group were Outreach, Github, Inspection, and the Engineering Notebook. Outreach and Inspection were very helpful and informative workshops because we are a new team and we needed all the help we could get. We also had no ideas on how to format our Engineering Notebook, so the team that presented their viewpoints really gave us some inspiration. After today, we are all buzzing with excitement to start preparing for this season’s game, WOOHOO!

This is the field for where the game is played at.

Yay, Let's be astronauts!

Waiting for the game reveal to start
